The vast majority of my postdoctoral work has focused on the question: “How do desert rodent survive without water?” Pursuant to this, I have been working on a community of rodents in the inland deserts of Southern California. These rodents (Peromyscus and Chaetodipus) are remarkable in their ability to live without ever drinking water.  I have been building a large mRNAseq Illumina dataset, which is combined with field-collected data on ecology and physiology, and novel computational methods.  Together, I endeavor to generate a set of genes whose effects will be tested using captive animals on which tightly controlled experiments will be performed.
